1983 is a 2014 Indian Malayalam-language family drama, built on the glorious vestiges of Indian cricket, starring Nivin Pauly in the lead role, supported by a stellar cast including Anoop Menon, Nikki Galrani, Joy Mathew, Srinda Arhaan, Jacob Gregory, Saiju Kurup, Shine Tom Chacko, Dinesh, Sui Joseph, Neeraj Madhav and Sanju. The movie which is a tribute to Sachin Tendulkar revolves around Rameshan (Nivin Pauly) and his memories from 1983 when India won its first World Cup under Kapil Dev. The film was accepted widely by a large audience and made its way to winning the 62nd National Film Award for Best Background Score. To add to the feast, it also received three Kerala State Film Awards including Best Debut Director, Best Actor and Second-Best Actor. Widely regarded as one of the best movies during the Malayalam New Wave, ‘1983’ spreads out the rustic nostalgic visuals of a village with young lads obsessed with cricket and how their lives shape up in future. The movie brings an unassuming simplicity and a rare cheerful sense in every sequence, that makes it linger within the audience even after the end of the watch time.

QUEEN

Queen is a 2018 Indian Malayalam-language thriller film that beautifully portrays cross-gender friendship. Directed by Dijo Jose Antony, written by Sharis Mohammed and Jebin Joseph Antony, it is a flamboyant celebration of college life, but later shifts the tone into more important and serious issues that carry a faint sense of familiarity all through. Saniya Iyappan appears as Chinnu, the sole female entry in a Mechanical Engineering batch. The role won her the Best Female Debut in Filmfare Award – South and Vanitha Film Awards. The supporting cast includes Dhruvan, Eldho Mathew, Aswin Jose, Arun Das, Vijayaraghavan, Salim Kumar, Sreejith Ravi and Leona Lishoy. It was later remade in Tamil as Friendship in 2021 starring Arjun, Harbhajan Singh, Losliya Mariyanesan and Sathish.
